Medicare is the program that more people are familiar with, to be eligible you must be 65
or have a qualifying disability. Tricare will tend to be a new term to many people who are
not experts in the insurance industry, Tricare is the health care program that serves
uniformed service members, retirees and their families worldwide. Within the US, it
offers secondary coverage after Medicare. You must have Medicare Part A & B to be
eligible for Tricare in the US and in US territories.
How Medicare and Tricare work together is through Medicare Part C & D. Tricare can
work with a Medicare Advantage plan with is part C, but if you have Tricare you may not
need Medicare part C. The Tricare Drug plan is considered “credible coverage”
suggesting that it is as good as Part D insurance.
